Viva la roja!

We have been spending many nights over the past week watching the European Cup soccer championships and were elated to cheer Spain to a well-earned *v*i*c*t*o*r*y* over Italy yesterday! Viva EspaƱa! It was a nail-biting finish with overtime and penalty kicks, but we objectively think that the worthiest team came away with the win. On to Russia in the semi-finals this Thursday.

I have to say, I cannot share in your victory. I spent the past week learning about the sport through Italian eyes. I was in Ottawa with Patrizio and so watched all the games. Well, I'll be a good sport and offer my congratulations anyway. Bravo. Bravo. Next time we'll have to put some sort of wager on the game.

I love seeing the new posts. This was a great idea. Can't wait to see pictures of the baby!

Ah, yes...it did occur to us that you, in particular, might catch this posting, Elena, and the thought almost deterred us from expressing our full enthusiasm. But if we can turn this into a healthy Southern European rivalry, all the better. Up to this point, the only betting we have been able to do has been on the final scores of the Eurocopa games at our supermarket, where the winner takes home an Iberian ham. Not bad.

We hope that you and Patrizio are otherwise well!
