This is an image I will forever associate with watching Obama's Presidential Inauguration on television. With Mateo's 6-month birthday upon us, he is just about in full control of the monumental sitting position. He has quite obviously already mastered, however, the "comfortably slouched" position and use of the arm rest. Honestly, someone get this kid a beer.
Mateo was about as excited as I was moved by Aretha Franklin's rendition of "My Country, 'Tis of Thee."

First, Alex, you look really cute in your glasses. You need to be on a poster for motherhood. Second, he is MADE for the easy chair. If he's going to drink beer, he needs to have a brat with it. Come to Wisconsin. We'll set him up. He can have any chair he wants. If I ever put him down. Love you guys! Tia Anna
Tio Chuck wants to know if Mateo liked Aretha Franklin's hat? We're afraid that Mimi will want one like it. (or that Katie will!) Chuck calls Mateo "the burgermeister." (We realize it's German, but it seems to fit the image of Mateo in that easy chair....)
You guys make Trans-Atlantic family-making look easy and beautiful and I know it ain't. I am proud of you all.
I should be running off to school...actually, I should be changing out of my pajamas to run off to school, but I can't take my eyes off of Mateo's Aretha Franklin picture. And I have to "second" Tia Anna. You look so incredibly happy and beautiful, Alex.
Firstly, we love the new nickname. Tell Tio Chuck that Mateo will now be referred to only as "the burgermeister" in this house. And when the Mateo show goes on the road, you can bet your bottom dollar that we will be heading towards the brats and easy chairs of his lovely tios.
With respect to Aretha Franklin's hat, Mateo's response was that while we have all seen that he is not above wearing girls' clothing, when it comes to headwear, he prefers pieces that draw attention to the left side of his face (his "good" side), so Aretha's hat is a no-go for him. You know Mateo...
