Like Father, Like Son

(I like them both.)

Bernardo, 14 months old, on San Lorenzo beach in Gijón. For those of you who attended our wedding, you may recognize the church in the background from the Palm Sunday mass that we attended together, before sharing the warmest of meals on that rainy April Sunday in Gijón.

Mateo, 6 months old, celebrating his great-grandfather's 94th birthday with a big meal amidst snow-covered mountains in Felechosa.

The continuity of familial celebrations is gladdening; the resemblance of the boys, staggering. If this is any indication that Mateo has inherited character traits of his father along with the looks, the world is in for a treat.

Man, my heart is melting right now. I am flooded with a co mingling of love for your family and intense gratitude for having gotten to visit the sites described on your wedding weekend.

On a lighter note, look at those baby thighs on Bernardo, holy cow!

We haven't been there...but you sure make us feel like we're there with you, or at least, wishing with all our hearts that we were. What lovely photos and memories and what amazing characters in your life's story! And I agree with AWOL Mommy....great thighs. And that look of determination on Bernardo's face looks eerily familiar in another man's first steps!

Wow. When I hadn't yet scrolled down and all that filled my computer screen was the photo of the boy on the beach, I thought 2 things: 1. Mateo is walking at less than 7 months?! A neurologic miracle! And, 2. Sepia tone. Ooh, Alex, you .are. feeling winsome. The similarities between those two are extraordinary. Yes, indeed, the more of Berni (and Alex, both) in this world the better. Despite the rain, I have only the brightest of memories of that meal, and the constant exchange of smiles and mirth and mmms that it coreographed.
